Acquired brain injury - or "ABI" - refers to any damage to the brain that occurs after birth. That damage can be caused by an accident or trauma, by a stroke, a brain infection, by alcohol or other drugs or by diseases of the brain like Parkinson's disease. Brain Injury is common. Over 500,000 Australians have an acquired brain injury. Three out every four of them are aged under 65. As many as two out of every three of these people acquired their brain injury before they turned 25. Three out of every four people with acquired brain injury are men. Brain Injury Australia is the peak acquired brain injury (ABI) advocacy body representing, through its State and Territory Member Organisations, the needs of people with an acquired brain injury, their families and carers. It works at a national level to ensure that all people living with acquired brain injury have access to the supports and resources they need to optimise their social and economic participation in the community.

Parkinson’s Victoria was established in 1981 by four visionary women who were themselves diagnosed with Parkinson’s. They provided information and mutual support to people with Parkinson’s and their families. Twenty five years later, Parkinson’s Victoria is a statewide specialist agency providing services for people with Parkinson’s, their families and carers, with over forty support groups throughout Victoria.

MS SA & NT MS South Australia & Northern Territory
The Society was started in 1964 by a group of dedicated individuals who were living with MS or who were supporting someone with MS. As the rate of diagnosis of MS has increased The Society has increased its capacity and the range of services has increased as the need for these has been identified. We fill the many gaps that occur between Health Department services and Disability services. We also supplement the inadequate DSA (Disability SA) services in South Australia. From supporting a few hundred people in the 60's we now have over 1,500 members plus their support teams relying on us for essential services.

The MS Society of Tasmania is a not for profit organisation committed to assisting Tasmanians affected by Multiple Sclerosis (MS). MS is the most common neurological condition affecting young people in Tasmania. In fact, this state has the highest prevalence of the disease in Australia. Some six hundred Tasmanians have a diagnosis of MS and many more people such as family members and carers are affected by the disease every day.
